General discussion

need new digital camera, but which one?

May 27, 2005 2:18AM PDT

I have never owned a digital camera but my 35mm was dropped and need something new. I have worked with the Canon S100 ans S110 and like them but not sure what is compairable with them. I will be talking pictures of my family mostly. I have a baby so I'd like something that can zoom up close so flash isn't in her face. Need something that is easy (point and shoot) not to many buttons, babies don't wait around. I'm worried about battary life. Not sure about the AA's, do they last or will I be buying tons of them? Cost between $100-300. Thanks

If you like the size of the Canon S100 and S110, you will like the Canon SD200/SD300 cameras:

Regarding AA batteries:
Cameras that use Alkaline AA batteries also can use
rechargeable NiMH AA batteries.
The NiMH batteries last about 4 times longer than the Alkaline batteries and the NiMH batteries are rechargeable.

You can purchase NiMH batteries with a charger for as little as $10.

Buy as many Pixels as you can afford. I saw a 4mp kodak camera at a well known chain for about 300.00. You'll like the results. Make sure you have at least a 6x optical zoom Ignore electronic zooms becuase they get fuzzy on detail. Get a model with a SD card because the cards can be used in other devices like your PDA.

A canon because that's what you've been using. Although those models are not selling any more, they do have similar newer models with more pixels and Digic II image processing. Get the one closest to your price point, you won't be disappointed. I have the elph model you mentioned and have made stunning 8X10 enlargements all from a 2 megapixel cam. It's not just the pixels, it's the lens.
