Need mobile device with direct connect and ArcGIS apps

by ktjefferson / August 12, 2010 2:07 AM PDT

We need a mobile device that can:
1. Access the internet
2. Connect to the local area network
3. Receive and send emails
4. Receive and send text messages
5. Receive and send voice telephone calls
6. Run ARC GIS applications
7. Take pictures
8. Use the Direct Connect feature
These are "MUST HAVES". Does such a device exist?

That the top seven can be had or created on the Droid phones. DIRECT CONNECT will only be there if the Cellular company that you go with does that.

Remember that as an app developer I can only answer that it is possible. If the companies won't talk to you about what is available now, then talk to someone else.

No problem- look at either the Tilt or Tilt 2

The ATT Tilt (aka HTC 8925 'Kaiser') & ATT Tilt 2 (both running Windows Mobile) take care of your entire punch list above. ATT calls Direct Connect PTT (push to talk), but I don't know if they still offer the service. Their business care folks can likely answer that question. Here's a link to the requirements for arcGIS mobile software from one site-
