Need Inspiron 8100 chipset drivers

Sep 2, 2009 12:03PM PDT

A friend just gave an older Inspiron 8100 laptop. It?s running sloooooooooow, so I?m preparing to reformat the hard drive and do a full reinstall. I don?t have the Utilities and Divers CD, so I?m collecting all the drivers I can off the web before I reformat.

I found a number of drivers on the Dell Downloads and Drivers site, but the appropriate page does not list Chipset drivers.

Chipset: Intel

So why not use dell.com?

The Service Tag is the easy way to find the drivers for this machine. Your method is old school but can be too hard on most. In fact, that Dell Quickset program may be needed too.

About dell.com

Thanks for the suggestions. I did use Dell.com, and I did input the Service Tag. But the Downloads and Drivers page at dell.com for my machine doesn?t list chipset drivers, and that?s what I?m after.

My laptop doesn?t have Quickset, but I will consider installing it after I reinstall everything else.

While Vista, Windows 7 may not need them, here's how I find them.

Intel Chipset Identification Utility
Sep 3, 2009 12:35AM PDT

Bob,
Thanks again for the suggestions. I had already downloaded and used version 2.91 of the Intel Chipset Identification Utility, that?s how I determined the laptop has an Intel 815EM chipset.

I followed the link you just provided to a download page for the Intel

And even then it's just that file for most if not all.

There is nothing more to do here. XP for instance may be fine without said driver pack.
