Question

Need help/advice please!

Sep 12, 2018 11:45AM PDT

Bought a GTX1050ti, and i've learned that my current system cannot handle this card. My question is, what motherboard and processor do i need, at minimum, to handle this. i only upgraded the card for a new game release, and now its looking like a whole system needs to be ordered. Im not a tech guy, so everything i read online makes no sense.

What is your current system?

Why won't it handle this card?

My current setup is an HP Pavilion H8-1121, running an i7-2600. The tower was purchased in 2011, and since I've upgraded my power source, graphics card (560) and now have an SSD running Windows 10. I've had a few compatibility issues since the system was never designed to run W10, but this is the first non-perform I've ever had.

Sorry. My BIOS isn't compatible with the new card, and because my setup is so old there's no way to update it. Not to mention, my motherboard doesnk( provide power through the main slot (previous card had two 6pin connectors for power, new card does not)

Do you get a bios splash screen when you power up?

Answer
You have an i7.

And it's just that card. I'd try the usual AMD video card next.

Read and pick from https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html or https://www.reddit.com/r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds PCMR has new builds but you often get to spend another 100 for a new OS license.

This is why I usually swap to AMD when this happens and I don't have time to test why the Nvidia didn't come up.

http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti-vs-AMD-Radeon-RX-560-B/3649vsm330029 seems to put the rx 560 or better as the AMD model to try.
