need help with windows XP

Aug 3, 2007 1:33PM PDT

hi,

I'm somewhat of a computer amateur so please bear with me. I just put a new harddrive into my Inspiron 5160 and reinstalled all of the software. For some reason I cannot put my computer on stand by. The option appears, but it is grayed out.

Also, when I scroll down an IE page using the right-side arrows, the movement of the view is not fluid. I don't know how to describe it other than to say that. It scrolls really slowly and it's bugging me.

If anyone can help, that would be great!

thanks
Karen

Standby issue

I am going to guess that some motherboard drivers dealing with advanced power control are missing. This should be part of the motherboard chipset that Windows cannot deal with until these drivers are installed. Check for ACPI in device manager under system devices. If not showing, run the motherboard setup utility if you have one. A restart will be needed so Windows can configure these.
