Need help with Sony dcr-trv280

I bought this Handycan about 18 months ago and have since bought a new computer with the Vista basic package on it! I tried to hook up the camera with the computer but it could not read it. A window popped up and stated that the vista and sony had compability issues. I downloaded the drivers at Sony but it was useless! I need to know how I can save these tapes of film I have left. Any suggestions would help.Thanks!
