Need help with purchasing a new system...

Dec 22, 2014 3:56AM PST

hello everyone...

I'm interested in purchasing a new system, meaning something like surface pro-3 or anything similar which I can use as a tablet and when I want to do serious work I can put it on the docker and work with blue-tooth keyboard and mouse on the LCD (am not sure if there is such a thing as wireless display) which can be connected with the docker.

So, basically what am looking at is...

- a tablet which has a keyboard + docking station
- a LCD (computer LCD or TV-LCD?)
- a sound system that I can connect with the system.

What I want to do with this system..

-basically everything...I want one system to do everything, don't want separate devices, one for reading, one for this work and other for that work...

-i want to read books on it (lying on bed - so it should be something that can be easily carried)

-can watch movies (when connected with the docker and LCD)

-can watch movies when I'm on the go...

So, I guess you get an idea what am looking for. I'm not specifically looking for Surface Pro 3 (something bigger then 12" would have been better...like 14"?) but from what I read I guess its the best windows tablet out there?

Please suggest what hardware should I be looking at.

Thanks

And it fails big time for the work I do so I can't guess what apps you are thinking of for apps. So no, there is nothing out there in tablet form for my work. Tell more about your apps.

apps?

well, if I get the surface pro 3 I don't think I'll need the apps as its a full-fledged windows system, right? So, most of that I would like to do, I think it can handle...?

- browsing (chrome)
- office (MS-office...or hopefully there is a free version I can use, don't like to pay for paid software),
- multimedia (VLC)
-ebooks (plenty of free software, like nook etc)
- downloading (utorrent)

I'm not much into android apps, they are for fun IMHO, not much hardcore productivity which can be done using a laptop.

Torrent would be a failure

The space is pretty small there. But you know your apps so I can't guess if you checked out disk space. The 128GB version is about half full just with the OS.

The term apps is used across iPad, Android and Windows today.

well am aware of the apps but I thought if I buy a windows system, I would be better off with the core apps like MS office and stuff rather then apps, but you are correct that apps or software whatever we call them, use space - and space costs money.

So, I'll keep using my HP elite-book @ home which I've connected to a LCD.

I need something which I can carry with me everywhere and would not cost me a fortune (I do love the samsung 12.2 tab because of its big size but its quite expensive).

I already have a Nook Simple touch for reading books - am not sure which device would be best for me for watching video. Watching videos on my cellfone is not what I want because of its small screen...

So, bottom line...? :S
