Need help with picking a receiver????

Jul 25, 2009 1:28PM PDT

Hi there. Cannot figure this out despite my online research

I currently have a samsung 5087 DLP set that is capable of 1080p display. It has 3 HDMI inputs

I am looking to upgrade a 6 year old Onkyo receiver. Do I need to buy one that upconverts to 1080p? Will my set do that anyway if I connect my receiver to the set via HDMI?

The receivers that upconvert obviously cost more but I really feel ignorant and can't tell if I need that. I do plan on buying a blu-ray player at some point in the next year.

Thanks

Yes.

Bluray players upscale pretty darn well. To get VP in a receiver that is actually worthwhile, you have to drop a lot of coin, typically.

Just get the BDP, and only consider audio when selecting receiver.

I'm in the same boat. Need to settle on a receiver for a 5.1
Any ideas/suggestions?
