Need help with Outlook Express

Feb 25, 2004 9:03AM PST

To make a long story short, I had to redownload IE6. My outlook express was gettting funky. I can nowsend a link, or a page, but I still can't click on the "read mail" tab on the browser and get it to open my default mail. I click on it and absolutely nothing happens. So then I go to tools and check the internet options, and go to the programs tab and this is what I have.

HTML Editor: this is blank
Email: this is blank
Newsgroups: Outlook Express
Internet Call: NetMeeting
Calender: this is blank
Contact List: Address book

I can't the tab to work on the "email". The down arrow does nothing!! I just have the blue highlite bar. Is this my problem now? How do I get it to work? The only way I can open my email when on the browser, is to click on the mail icon and go to the "read news" tab. Then it will go to the newsgroups ( of which I could care less about), and I have to click on the "inbox" tab in the left column. Now if I go down to start and click on the oulook express icon, then it will open. Do I make any sense here?

Try reinstalling I.E. 6:

Click Start | Run | type c:\windows\inf

locate the file called "ie.inf" (hidden file).
Right click it and select "Install"

Internet explorer core files and shell will be reinstalled.

David, I have an icon that says "ie.PNF"
I don't see anything that is "ie.inf"
All of mine are listed as "PNF"
I have iesetup, ieaccess, iereset, and ieexcep, and all of these have files ending in PNF also. Going thru the files, there isn't a one that has the "inf". I value your help....thanks.

*.pnf files are not hidden files, nut *.inf files are. To view hidden files, including search for iterms, you have to enable'show hidden files'.

'Read Mail Tab'---where is this ? At Internet Explorer ?

How do you read mail at Outlook Express ?
Do you open Outlook Express and click at 'Send and Receive' whereby OE will start to look through your accounts and download messages, if any, and you then open the messages to read by clicking at the messages....?

The article [Q306098] warns that when you attempt to use OE to send mail from a hyperlink, to send mail by using the "Send To" feature of another program, or to send mail by using the "New Message" feature in IE, it does not occur if OE is not registered as the default e-mail program or the default OE mail client string values in the registry is corrupted or missing.

As I said, I have gone to there and can't do anything with it. The box for me to make outlook express my default won't work. I go to click on the down arrow and it just turns the box blue and absolutely nothing can be typed in there! Getting frustrating here.
