Need help with Norton Ghost 2003 to load info onto new H/D

Dec 16, 2004 5:07AM PST

Anyone with experience using Norton Ghost 2003 (or any backup utility) to backup C: drive to a new hard drive?

I'm replacing a defective, newly installed hard drive. I've already backed up the data from the H/D onto 3 CD-RWs. Can I just load the info from these 3 CDs onto the new H/D without first loading the OS (Window XP Home UPGRADE)onto the new H/D, since the backup CDs already contain the operating system?

Additional Norton Ghost 2003 question
Dec 16, 2004 11:24AM PST

Sorry, I didn't scroll down far enough to see the post from BCW1973. However, my situation is a bit different, as I am backing up files from a defective H/D to install on a new H/D on the same machine.

When I backed up my C drive to the 3 CD-Rws, will the OS be included in the backed up files?

Also, I performed an Image Integrity Check by loading the files from all 3 CDs. But, when the loading terminated, the pc just rebooted back to my desktop without any confirmation. Was there supposed to be a confirmation?

Thanks, Hounddog. Do you know if Norton Ghost 2003 includes the OS in the backup of the C drive?

I performed an Image Integrity Check , but

did not get confirmation. Was there supposed to be one?
When I tried to install the 3 backup CDs onto the newly installed HD, it would not load. A dialog window mentioned something about NOT giving a name to the backup files at the beginning. Ghost 2003 directions were confusing, so I probably made an error, when I made the backup disks. Need help in simple, non-technical terms, please. Happy

I don't know if this will help or not. I, too attempted to do a system backup utilizing Norton Ghost. It took 6 cd's to do this. In attempting to load the backup, it went through approximately 90% of the first disk and I received the error message, "could not read disk". The system immediately went to disk defrag, and subsequently I had to do a clean install. I was advised to never rely on Ghost for a backup.
