Need help with directx

Mar 14, 2008 3:46AM PDT

Something is wrong with the directx installation on my computer, any update I try to do fails, telling me to check dxerror.log and directx.log. Here's what's on them:

--------------------
[02/25/08 19:30:02] module: DXWSetup(Oct 22 2007), file: dxwsetup.cpp, line: 367, function: CDXWSetup::InitInstallEngine

Failed API: SetAction()
Error: (0x80070057) - ? pa??

Directx on Vista. There are no updates that would you have you doing this. So rather than work in such a long post and without the real story I suggest a new post such as ...

I have a vista laptop (Acre 3923-3405), Vista Basic and want to run Command of Cronus V. Does any one know how to make it run?

Problem
Mar 14, 2008 4:57AM PDT

OK, the laptop is an Acer Aspire 5720G. I once messed with the directx registry and since then I've been having problems with some games. Now it's Civilization Beyond the Sword. The original and Warlords run fine, but this one insists on updating directx. Problem is, it can't and I can't install the game. The setup program just shuts down.

I must have been unclear. So more bluntly. This is a travesty of a post. It goes on and on and on without any statement of the basics of what is the goal, cause, the PC in use and more.

My reply was about what might get you some replies about your issue.

Goal: Install the game.
Cause: I'd sure love to know.

Acer Aspire 5720G
Inter Core 2 Duo 1.5 GHz
GeForce 8400M GS
2GB RAM
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

More: Dunno, what else is there? I was hoping someone could interpret what is in that log and tell me what to do to fix the problem. Is that still unclear?
