you must have something set incorrectly for this not to work.
Check ALL the settings against the ones in the Gaming machine. Safari and Firefox are not the least bit concerned how you get on the net, be it dial up or cable.
However, you may have to set the network settings again as it may be that the browsers are not finding any Domain Name Servers out there because the line is either not filled in or you are not getting that information back from your ISP.
No find DNS = No find servers.

So I've been out of touch for a few days...so I come home and the cable modem is out due to maintenence for the next few days ( read a drunk took out a few poles and the cable company is in no hurry ) and I go to connect via dial up as I keep a back up account that my mom piggybacks off of...anyway, I click connect on the menue bar and it dials through but neither Safari nor Firefox can find a server. I shut everything down and restart as My iBook had been running for at least 10 days and try again...same story. I restart again...fix permissions then go to system prefs - network - internal modem - PPP screen and click on "dial now..." which brings up the connection box...I dial - it connects - the browser refuses to find any server...
Ive done this several times now and same story every time. I also noticed that when the connection box comes up there are 2 more asterisks in the password box than there are in the the password box in the system preferences/network/ppp screen. whether I correct this or not the iBook still dials and connects but again I get the no server found message. It's not the dial up since I'm typing this right now on a windows gaming machine right now!
Any advice ?
I'm running a 6 month old iBook with os 10.3.9 and ussually connect via airport express and a belkin 54 wifi router conected to a cable modem but I turned the airport card off when trying to connect via dial up.
