Question

Need Help with connecting wireless router to computer

Dec 24, 2011 10:49PM PST

Merry Christmas,I need help. I bought my 2 teenage daughters Ipods for christmas. I have a home computer that uses internet through comcast it is not dial up.
My question is do I need to hook this wireless router up to my home computer? I only bought the router for the 2 ipods. I don't want to use the wirless router for my computer use.
This is a little confusing to me. I looked at the back of my modem there is not any place to hook the yellow wire up too it.
Please help me if you can I would love for my daughters to be able to use there ipods today and not have to wait for me to call comcast on tuesday.
Thank you so much

Router hook up

I am a little confused as to what you have for a router. I am just guessing what you may have is a wireless cable gateway, basically a modem/router combination. IF this is what you have it should have ethernet ports to hardwire to via ethernet cable(s). The unit would be hooked up via cable (comcast) and typically there would be 4 ethernet ports with which to hook up systems(desk tops etc) and have wireless capability for such things as laptops or hand helds such as you mentioned. All you should need, if this is what you have, would be a piece of ethernet cable to go from the router unit to the ethernet port on your desk top. Hopefully this is what you have, if it is you should be in good shape for what you are attempting to do. Keep us posted.

Router etc.

To add to a prior post, there is another possibility, a friend who has Comcast is hooked up another way, that is via a separate cable modem linked to a wireless router (ethernet cable LAN input) and linked from the router with another ethernet cable to the desktop, since I am not sure what you have for hardware I thought I would add this info. Best of luck and Merry Christmas!
