Need help with cNet download

by atrodd / February 16, 2011 1:51 AM PST

OS: windows 7 Professional 32 bit certified
BROWSER: IE v8.0.7600

PROBLEM: I can download files from just about any site on the net EXCEPT cNet. The status bar at the bottom of the browser progresses as expected but the file download windows never shows up. No security bar on top, no warning, no error, no nothing.

WHAT I'VE ALREADY DONE: The obvious. Lowered security, added to trusted sites, checked the download radio button on advanced settings, bla, bla, bla.

Any ideas or comments are welcomed...

Your Not Alone..

Others are having similar problems with the CNET Download site.. The "powers that be" have been notified.

It might help us, help you, if you gave us a link to the specific download you're attempting.

Hope this helps.

I tried the PrimoPDF link and it downloaded fine.

Would you have a look at the discussion in the " Feedback" forum in the discussion, I CAN NO LONGER DOWNLOAD NOW.

There are multiple user problems reported there and the discussion is ongoing, but there may be some steps or advice there that might help you.

Let us know how you get on.

Worked Fine For Me Also
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / February 16, 2011 5:01 AM PST

Just a note: If the download doesn't work correctly, there is a "Click Here" option on both the download pages in the line that states: "No Download?".. Did you try such?

Remember to disable any pop-up blockers on the browser you use.

Hope this helps.

When you are having trouble ...
by Edward ODaniel / February 16, 2011 5:13 AM PST

at one specific site when you attempt to download an application do a quick google search for the application ( primo pdf in the first instance ) and then look through the results for the publisher's page. (The publisher is actually NitroPDF but on their site they do not show the free version.) The Google search brings up NitroPDF's other domain where they host the free version. Since it is the publisher's site you can rest assured that it will be as malware free as what is on CNET's

The same applies for the Advanced System Care which is an IOBit product. Now, I and many others here will advise you to AVOID this product as "registry cleaners" and "System optimizers" such as this have a history of causing more problems than they ever cure. Many do use them though (and those of us who make money fixing problem PCs appreciate the owner's use of the product despide advice to the contrary) so I am offering you a link to the product and advising you not to use it.

It's been a long time since I've been to download, but I came over from a handy link to get Avast antivirus free edition. I click on the download link and nothing happens. Just an update for those that are wondering.
