Need help! Trying to install Windows Security Essentials

Trying to install Windows Security Essentials on my Acer Aspire 5610

"Please wait while this wizard in stalls security essentials on your computer. This might taks a few minutes"..... ummm it has been four hours so far......

You can try doing it in Safe Mode. Might make a difference. If it still doesn't work, find another free antivirus like Avast or Avira. They are considered to be better than MSE.

Cancel the install and try again

Obviously you're going to have to cancel that install one way or another. Have you uninstalled any other antivirus program you have? If not, you need to do that. If you have, then I'd recommend what's called a "clean boot". Hold down the Windows key and press R. Type in MSCONFIG and click the Startup tab. Make a note of what's checked, then uncheck everything. Then reboot and retry installing MSE. If that doesn't work, you'll need more remedial steps, but try the clean boot first and see if it works. If it does, you can go back to MSCONFIG and re-check what was checked to start.
