Need help to fix the exchange server problem

Feb 15, 2007 11:36AM PST

I have an old 2000 server with exchange server 2000 run in my company. The exchange server was crashed. Users' outlook can't open. Someone told me to mount store for mailbox, I tried but failed to mount. I need to stop the exchange server now because full of the event view list. I saw the following error messages from the event view:

MSExchangeSA
Error: 9175

"The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error:
The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance.
The MAPI provider failed.
Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store
ID no: 8004011d-0526-00000000

MSExchangeFBPublish
Error: 8197

"Error initializing session for virtual machine. The error number is 0x8004011d. Make sure Microsoft Exchange Store is running.

Please help me to fix this major problem and users need to use outlook daily.

Thank you very much.

What I should do:
- replace the server with a known good machine
- install the software on it and configure it
- restore the data from the last backup
- see if you can get still later data from this crashed machine; if not, tell the users they lost half a day of messages (if you want to get problems with your boss add that it's caused by old hardware that he refused to replace although you warned him again and again that it really was necessary)

Then you've got time to see what's wrong with the current server. Could be hardware (necessitating a repair) or software (most easily solved with a fresh install). The idea is that servers don't crash randomly, but only with a cause.

Hope this helps.

Exchange server problem

Kees,

Thanks for your reply. I do not have any backup and no another machine to install exchange again. I think the problem for the exchange is logfiles were corrupted. I am looking for the solutions to fix those logfiles and remount database.

Such problems can be fixed.

Backup can be accomplished by diving in and getting it done. Replacement machines are plentiful. Time to go shopping.

-> Logfiles.

Sorry, but I purge logfiles since these are not needed for exchange operations. I'm beginning to wonder if you need to read a good book on administration. Try www.ora.com and www.slipstick.com for great titles and tips.

-> Remount database.

This would be in your good books or maybe at microsoft.com Since such is best not duplicated here since I might make a typo be sure to get it straight from the book or web site for your version of exchange.
