Need help to find the perfect scanner for my needs

Feb 9, 2011 5:13AM PST

Hi everybody,

I work in a publishing house and I often need to scan hundreds of 8,5x11 pages divided in stacks of 10 to 50+ pages. The scans must then be sent by email, so I need a good software that optimize the files the most possible while keeping the text readable. We have a pretty decent budget, maybe... 500$ to 1000$, maybe more if it's worth it.

Actually I got the Fujitsu fi-6130, which I totally hate considering it doesn't take the first page in first when the stacks are small. I don't like the software very much either, it doesn't even do automatic page rotation.

Sooo... I hope any of you will be able to give me some hints of which scanner would fit my needs.

Thanks a lot!

What does Xerox offer?

Xerox long ago went down the Document Management path. Maybe it's time to talk to them?

Considered a Cannon?

We recommend Energy Star compliant hardware.

Here is a link to a nice machine, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CATjy3XO9BM or if this link doesn't work, search for "Cannon Full-Duplex MX860"

This one has memory card readers, WiFi (print w/out wires), full-duplex scanning AND printing (save up to 50% on paper), you can save your scans as a multi-page .pdf and by using the DPI settings (switch from default 300 dpi to 100 dpi) you still have great legible copies to email yet file size is kept low.

This also happens to be an extremely affordable machine well below your budget. Best of luck!
