Re: line around text

Peacock,

There are several possibilities to do this. The most obvious is to use a text box (see http://www.xu.edu/its/word/textbox_images/images.htm for a simple introduction). With a right click>properties you can set how the line looks like.

A rather hidden alternative is a frame, but I don't think it has any advantages anymore.

And of course you can make a table of one row and one column to contain the text. Use the ruler than for horizontal positioning.

But - based on what you ask - a text box seems the best to use.

You can also use Paragraph Formatting
Aug 21, 2005 1:11PM PDT

There is one other way (other than the Text Box, or the Table methods).

If you want a line around the entire paragraph, then first select in a paragraph, or across many paragraphs, and then select Format>Borders and Shading.

At that time just choose what sort of line you want (it does not have to be 4 lines surrounding the selected paragraphs, by the way). Notice you can also change the shading of those selected paragraphs.

Later, you can even change the left and right ends of the paragraph, if you want to take those edges to some other point.
