Zero Assumption Recovery is the usual. Once you see what it might do then it's a simple question of "Are my files worth it?"
PC File Inspector is free but won't repair it.
-> Let me share that if you had the drive as a FAT32 volume such a disappearing act is common.

Thanks for reading this post; I really need help to access my external hard drive.
Yesterday, I defragmenter my external hard drive, thinking it?s going to be more efficient. Now the drive is not recognizing by my laptop. I have checked all the connections and tried turning hard drive off and on several time but still no hope.
On disk management panel I can find a external hard drive, but there is no letter assign to it, and under status it shows healthy status, but I still can?t access any of my files. I have tried almost everything that I knew to make it work but still nothing happens.
Please help me to resolve this issue!
By the way I am running XP Pro on Compaq P4 Notebook.
Thanx
