Question

Need help switching XP versions

Mar 19, 2012 8:43AM PDT

Can anyone walk me through or provide a link to switching XP versions? At the moment, my laptop has XP Pro (from '02) installed.

But I have a disc ready to install a later version of XP.
Do I have to uninstall the old one 1st? Just pop the new disc in?

Thanks for any help.

Clarification Request
What later version could that be?

There was a Pro 32 bit and a Pro 64 bit. There were OEM, retail and VL issues but those didn't differ in operation. I wonder if you're talking about some service pak level. The last was SP-3. If that's what you want, you download the service pak and install that by itself. Of course there have been numerous updates since SP-3 was released so the whole process will take some time.

There is no later version of XP Pro, so can you tell us what disk you have?
