Need help saving data from corrupted computer

by SueCougar / June 15, 2009 5:19 AM PDT

I have an HP computer. It keeps failing to load windows. I found a boot CD where I can see all my files, and I want to save them onto a series of flash drives before reformatting the hard drive. I tried using DOS commands to copy the files from the HD to the flash drive, but DOS isn't recognizing the E: drive. Any suggestions?

I am running Windows XP Professional, computer is HP Compaq 2200.

I am NOT a computer programmer. I know some basic DOS commands, but only because I've been using computers for a very long time. If you have any help suggestions, I'll need step-by-step instructions.

Thanks in advance!
Sue

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
