The basics are:
1) Backup any files you do not want to lose off the machine. CDR/W (if you have a burner), second hard drive, floppy (if the files will fit), USB flash drive, are all backup media.
2) Boot the machine with the restore cd in the drive and follows the instructions.
3) Windows Update and reinstall of software after the install is complete.
I just got a new computer and i want to reformat the old one and start out new like i just bought it, its for my younger brother. Here are the specs:

if you need to know more please let me know..i have the System Restoration Cd from Gateway but it wont work. It comes out as a music track thats 59 mins long..i tried all my other data disk and they all work perfectly. if there is a site that can guide me through that, can you please post it? I tried searching through goggle.com and ask.com but nothing came up. All i need to do is backup the music i have on there and thats it, should i just save that floppy disk or how would i make a back up? Thanks so much for the help.
