Need help....question about file tranfers...

Oct 25, 2005 3:49AM PDT

Hi all, please excuse my ignorance...

I am looking for an mp3 player that would allow me to add mp3's without needing a computer. I would like to have a player where I could add new songs via a USB key, or by using a friend's identical player. Are there any players that can do this?

thanks!

Without much to work with, I can suggest http://www.cnet.com and their search as well as google.com

What part of the world are you posting from? Here in the USA we have a few dozen such devices. But it would be too much for me to drag them up into this post.

Try a search engine?

it's interesting

Interesting. Yes I've combed through a whole bunch of information. The only suggestion I've received via adding songs to an mp3 player via an external usb key is the Cowan iX5. I should add that an in-line recording function isn't what I'm looking for - I would simply want to transfer files, and furthermore, organize playlists without a computer.

Put the songs in a folder, put the folder on the key, plug the key into the mp3 player, transfer the songs, play the songs. Dozens of devices will do this? Man, I guess my research skills aren't what I thought they were...

I'm in N.Y.

Bob (and anyone else) check it out

Okay.

I saw the Gateway model and a couple others that appeared able to do what I need. However, in addition to transferring directly from usb key, I need a unit that stores at least 5 Gigs, and has a larger than average screen. The iX5 looks like the one...

any other ideas? Or are we still in the "dozens of possibilities" land?

hmmm

thanks

The playlist editing narrows it a lot.

But there are at least a dozen 20 or so GB MP3 players that you can jump dump MP3s into and play them.

You never revealed what country, and it's not in your profile. From memory we have the Dell DJ, Samsung, RCA, Cowen, Gateway and more makes that would have to be researched. Nothing stands out yet but what you may have to do is find what is available in your country. Dell doesn't ship to some places. Same for the others.

Cheers,

Bob

Add the ARCHOS to your list. A poster in this forum did note they are able to make playlists on said device.
