need help on choosing between 4 laptop models ...

Hi there! I'm thinking of buying an ASUS laptop and I'm undecided on 4 particular models:

1.

I wouldn't touch them for money. Here's why.

While the ASUS name is known widely, their support is a known issue. The smallest issue or the need of a spare part will cause you to go from supporter to flamer in just a day.

Why do this to yourself or others?

Thanks for your feedback.

Never heard this about ASUS though I never owned a laptop so I wouldn't know. Do you have any personal experience with their support?

What laptops do you recommend?

Yes.

Since I am involved with a repair facility, this issue is why I write such. Since parts and support are spotty to nonexistant as well as sluggish at their best, you have to find solid reasons to consider noname laptops.

There are some hundreds of Dells, HP/Compaqs at the office so you could look at those and other names.

Cheers,

Bob

If I were to buy an ASUS...

I would buy a ''built on ASUS'' machine from a highly reputable dealer. These are ASUS white boxes that are finished by local companies. A Company that has good reviews for there business practices and whose machines are regularly ranked in the PC World ''Best Laptops'' is Discount laptops out of Las Vegas. They make Chembooks. If I were to buy one it would be:

not ASUS

agreeing with bob.Ive did research on this notebook a few months back and found the same results.Toshiba and Apple/MAc are great choices also.they both have a great notebook as well as customer care /teck support.try taking a look at your local comp usa, circut city or best buy stores.by doing this your hands on with the unit you like and may buy.this will give you the option to return the notebook or exchange if proublems should arise
Good luck

Why Not Acer?
Oct 8, 2005 4:35AM PDT

Though I am a ThinkPad Lover, yet I believe Acer offers more features for the same price as an ASUS notebook would, maybe even lesser. Support is also fairly better. Today, buying a laptop is almost a game of getting married, you gotta be absolutely sure of the support you'll get afterwards.

Why not Acer...

Well it may just be my experience but Acer screens seem a bit dull and muddy to me (granted, this is jsut from looking a limited number of models...after all they are the 3rd largest notebook seller so they must be doing something right). The machines I'm drawn to all have quite vibrant displays... I really love the POP on the new FS7XX sonys. I'm also expecting the BX will be very nice in this regard... when they finally get it rolled out with the dedicated GPU (which I understand will be an Nvidia, not an ATI X700 has portrayed on the Sony B2B site).
