Need help initializing a new Harddrive

Jun 27, 2006 1:31PM PDT

Hi! I just replaced a konked out harddrive in an iMac G3. The computers specs are: 450 mHz, 1 gb RAM, and the new harddrive is a Seagate 120 gb Internal Harddrive Ultra ATA.
So, when I go to install Panther on this Harddrive and I get to select a destination, I see the two partitions I made, but they have a Red Exclamation Point next to them and I cannot select it to install the OS. I go into Disk Utility and I verify it is there. So, I know I am missing some crucial steps here...
This is the first harddrive I have had to replace in a Mac, so I am green. I have worked on PC's many times, but, I am kinda stumped here. I know most of you will know what to do. So, any advice will be greatly appreciated. I wanted to give this back to my friend tomorrow before she moves out of state. It is her computer.
Thanks,
Rachyl

Took some time, but I figured it out, with some help from another forum. Thanks anyway...

It's the same for the Mac as it is for the PC.
You initialize (format) the drive and install the OS.
