need help/importing home movie - New!

by bridgettward2009 - 10/5/13 6:55 PM

I am trying to transfer some old home movies from my ancient sony handycam ccd-trv11---which only has rca plugs for the output and to transfer to my dell xps 64-bit computer with windows 7.
I thought purchasing a cord that ran rca jacks on the camcorder end to a usb end for my computer would solve my problem. But I keep running into issues---my computer doesn't even detect the camcorder and neither does any of my pinnacle programs I have installed versions #12 thru #16.
Can someone please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!

One option may be to record DVDs of the Sony's output and load them into your PC.
There are a number of Analogue to USB converters on Amazon but I have never used them, They are not expensive and may be worth a try.

I also have a fire wire card, can I transfer my movies from the rca cables to my fire wire card?

The RCA A/V output is analogue, both Firewire and USB are digital. So a converter is required.
You need to convert the analogue signal to digital, a DVD recorder will do this and there are analogue to digital converters available. Amazon have a number of devices to do the conversion but, unfortunately I have never used one so I cannot recommend any particular device.
A third option is to get a professional conversion but you will still end up with a copy on DVD.
