Question

Need help hooking up Blu-ray player to receiver.

Aug 17, 2016 1:50PM PDT
Samsung BD-J6300 3D Wi-Fi Blu-Ray Player (2015 Model)
I only have a coaxial input DVD jack and RCA jacks on my Yamaha receiver. How do I connect to the coaxial or the RCA inputs on the receiver from Blu-ray optical audio out? I have the HDMI from the Blu-ray out to my Comcast top box HDMI in. I have no sound just picture.

Clarification Request
Blu-ray model number. Check.

No Yamaha number so supply that so folk can be sure what is possible.

While some TVs have audio output on optical or other, it's rarely more than stereo and some block audio passing when the source is HDMI.

So let's get the TV model number too. Since you have it going to the Comcast box, may as well tell all the numbers.

Even with all that , Comcast may have to tell if it blocks HD Audio.

Sadly the TV is incomplete.

Go ahead and tell more about the TV. If you are unsure, supply the samsung.com web stie.
Also, since you are using the comcast box, which one?

That receiver has HDMI so why bother any other way? So.
Blu-ray HDMI to Receiver and HDMI off to the TV.

Looks like this would be easy.

Why not use HDMI from the BluRay to the receiver?
Aug 17, 2016 2:56PM PDT

The receiver has 2 HDMI inputs so one for your BluRay and the other from your cable box.

The receiver has one HDMI output which I would use to the the TV. That's what I meant.

Seems easy to setup. Why would we bother with coax, optical or such?

Yes, you are correct. But still no sound
Aug 17, 2016 3:09PM PDT

It is now hooked up that way and still no sound. I have an HDMI cable from Blu-ray out to Receiver HDMI DVD in. And a HDMI between Receiver and Top box. That was the first thing I tried. Why no sound?

At that point, settings matter.

I think your hookup is fine now. But the player and/or receiver need setup.

As a test does the TV produce sound when the bluray goes to the TV direct? If not it's the bluray settings. If you get sound, it's the receiver that has setting issues.

I don't own your models so I can't be exact. Samsung has a chat at Samsung.com for settings, and 1800SAMSUNG for voice discussions in the USA.

I'm sure JVC has similar web and phone support.
