Question

Need help - Got Directv Genie + Panasonic DVD recorder

Jan 28, 2015 6:00AM PST

I need help getting my Panasonic DMR-50 DVD Recorder to record. It is hooked up to the Directv Genie using RCA cables (red, yellow, white) and then RCA cables to the TV. For some reason it will play back store bought DVDs fine, but when I try to record and playback, it just plays static. Does anyone have personal experience in getting this to work? Everything worked fine when it was the old standard Directv boxes and used a coax cable. No coax cable on the Genie. Help.

Answer
Well there is no composite video there?

I've seen static before but the lack of audio tells me you have it hooked up wrong or misconfigured.
http://forums.directv.com/thread/11148900 covers this in another way as there is NO COMPOSITE OUTPUT on that box. You have to read that discussion on the work around.

Isn't DirecTV encrypting their content?

Similar to what Comcast, etc. does on thieir DVRs, even though they are cable providers(?) I always thought the boxes had the analog side locked down as such so one cannot export to even SD DVD.

Is they didn't share which box they had. The ones I know of with component are rare now and requires "one more thing" to record. The component is not copy protected and why it's dead Jim (Pepe.)
