Need help getting rid of MacDefender application

by sobergirl05 / May 14, 2011 3:28 AM PDT

A download page w/ scan came up while I was on History Channel. I ran the scan and got bells and whistles saying I have malware, spyware, etc. My other app, iAntiVirus, says I've got no problem. Now I caan't seem to delete the MacDefender and get random porno stuff popping up. I've got a 2009 Macbook Pro and use Safari mostly. I think something is up with this Defender app. Otherwise my computer works fine.............so far. Please help me get rid of the app Defender. I get a message stating the app is open so can't be sent to trash, but I can't seem to close it. Thanks!

Here is a removal guide

If you are not a member of BleepingComputer you will probably see ads above the removal guide. Disregard those and scroll down to the guide. It would probably also be a good thing to print out the instructions. You might need to use a different computer to view the link if you are having internet problems because of the malware.

I thought I had gotten an infection. When I closed my computer yesterday, something I had done apparently got rid of the malware. When logging on as usual, there was no evidence of MacDefender on my computer. I checked everywhere and ran the iAntiVirus again just to check. I appear to be clean. I did go thru the steps in the removal guide and did uncheck the open files box on the general tab in preferences. Hopefully it ia gone for good!
