Question

Need help getting access to a security camera DVR.

Apr 15, 2015 10:58PM PDT

I have a First Alert DVR security camera and DVR that I am having difficulty accessing from the Web. The setup is as follows:
Internet Service provided by local cable company via a Cisco DPC3848VM gateway.
That feeds a Netgear WNDR 4350 wireless router.
The DVR is connected to a Netgear extension unit acting as a bridge that feeds the signal to the router. The extension also provided WiFi to the area of the home where is it located.

I have the DVR set on a static IP using port 8080

So far I have opened port 8080 on the Cisco and setup port forwarding from the netgear to the DVR.

When I attempt to log in from an outside network I access the login page for the Cisco.

So basically I am in the front door but can't get to the needed device.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer
Opening a port is rarely enough.

Try putting your DVR's local IP into the DMZ of the router to the internet.

Sorry but if this is too advanced (the DMZ setting) you may have to have a network technician come in.

Easy Fix

First of all the port forward on the netgear router will work only if your Cable gateway is in bridge mode or the Netgear router is in Access point mode .

If you are sure that one of these function is already exist on your network setup then check the following steps which can fix the problem .

1 ) Login to the DVR settings and change the WEB port to 80 .
2 ) Login to the Netgear routers UI and then do port forwarding for port 80 .
3 ) Go to any of the port checker websites like ping.eu and check whether the port 80 is opened .
4 ) If the port shows opened then try to login to the DVR camera using the internal IP of the DVR and sure it will work .

Thanks ,
