So far, no one has produced a camera that excels at both tasks.
Camcorders treat still pictures as an afterthought,
Digital Cameras treat videos as an afterthought.
The digital cameras take good video but the audio circuits are very basic.
If you are too near the source of sound, loud sounds will be distorted.
If you want to record live music ... forget it.
Camcorders produce still pictures that are equivalent to a cell phone camera.
No flash and quite often a camcorder still photo is not what you expect.
It may be 5MP or 5MP by interpolation.
I use a digital camera and a camcorder.
..
Hello,
I'm hesitating between buying a camcorder and a digital camera. First off, my budget is around 100-250$. Secondly, I plan to use the device as much for video recording as for taking pictures. The typical pictures I would take would be the kind while on vacation, whereas the videos I would record are more like for filming a squirrel for 30 minutes or to record a walk in the woods.
So, I would like to know, for how long can one record video with a camcorder and a digital camera (keeping in mind my budget) ?
Is the limit due to memory limits or battery limits?
Also, I am planning to take a trip next summer where I will do a great deal of recording. I would like a device which makes it easy to replace batteries and memory flash cards, SD cards I think. Any thoughts here for better formats/features than others.
Of course, I will also take pictures. If I buy a 5 megapixel camcorder, can it take 5 megapixel pictures or is this just for the video. For such a price range, what would be a typical difference between the quality of images as seen on a computer for a camcorder and a digital camera?
Thank you for any input regarding my questions.
