Need Help-Desktops with no Software

Sep 3, 2006 10:31PM PDT

Hello,

I'm looking to purchase a complete desktop, with monitor, but I don't need software. I have licenses for XP Pro, Office, MacAfee, etc. Even though I know how to assemble, I don't want to unless I absolutely have to. Are there any manufacturers out there that will sell completely assembled systems with no software instaled? I tried Dell, HP (Compaq), etc. No one will do it.

Thanks for any advice provided. Much appreciated.

The makers as you can read tried the white box program.

As to software, you can get a refund for the OS. There are no other softwares on the machine worthy of note since (at least here in the US) they can't force the OS on you. The refund process is a little tedious but people do that.

Be sure you want to do this since it also can make hardware support impossible. Let's take the instance your USB ports don't work after you install your OS. If you make the common mistake they won't. You call for repair and the tech finds the issue and then hands you the bill. Be sure you are ready for this event.

Give them a call see what they have to say.

Heck, my local pc shop will build a machine for you.

They'll stand behind the hardware but if you make a hash of the software then your on your own.

DELL SMALL BUSINESS

Use the DELL small business website. They have complete systems available. OPEN SOURCE. These will come with only DOS and you can install whatever you like. They will be under the DESKTOP dragdown menu.

Desktop without software

I have done this a number of times, but not through the major manufacturers. I use Tigerdirect.com, Geek.com, or pcdirectsource.com. At either, you can select what you want, without or without software; pre-assembled or unassembled.
