Need help deciding...

Hey everyone,

I know there's a ton of topics around here asking what kind of digital camera to buy, but I'm having some trouble finding a good camera -- I keep wanting to get one but the flaws just confuse me even more. My 5-year-old FujiFilm camera really isn't my type (FinePix 2400 Zoom).

I'm more of an everyday point and shoot photographer, like pics of friends, some environmental pictures, etc. but I'm also slightly interested in photography. What are some recommendations with the following features?:

* 3.0+ megapixels (I don't really print out any pictures, so it doesn't really matter)
* High quality/resolution pictures, not too much noise especially indoors
* Ultracompact or at least convenient to take around
* Long battery life
* Fast response (shutter speed, recycle time, start-up time, etc)
* Anything up to $350, a little over is ok if the camera is really good
* 3x optical zoom or higher
* Canon brand (unless a better camera can take my breath away ;P)
* I want it to be a camera that very recently came out... don't know why (if it doesn't really matter then disregard this point)

At first, I was seriously considering the Canon Powershot SD400, which was released a few weeks ago, but I haven't found really any official reviews around to compare with others. Do you think it's the right choice? If you could recommend any good cameras (Canon especially!), please list them here. Thanks so much Happy

No, it is not a canon, but give it a chance.

*2.7 inch LCD display (HUGE)
*ultracompact, it is very tiny
*super fast, no shutter lag
*more control (ISO, WB, bestshot modes are really cool)
*5 mp, 3x optical zoom, the LONGEST Battery life anywhere-- by a long shot.

Finally, it looks amazing. It is very sleek and solid, the huge screen impresses my friends every time. I have operated a Canon A95 extensively and this supercompact outperforms it on every level if you are wanting a point and shoot. It will be cheaper than the Canon SD400, but the video is not as good. Both will be excellent choices.
