when you look at your clip, draw a box around the portion that you wish to keep.
Once the section has a "box" around it, drag it to where you need it to be.
It will automatically crop the parts that you did not enclose in the box.
Sorry if this is a little generic, I am not in front of my Mac right now and this is from memory.
As an aside, as an owner of iMovie 08, you can download and install a copy of iMovieHD (the version prior to this one) for free. It is available at the Apple site.
You will find that it is a lot more user friendly than 08. Both 08 and HD can exist on the same drive with no problem

I am using I movie 08. I am beginning to learn to hate it and gather that earlier versions worked better. My problem seems simple but somehow I cannot cut sections from strips in the Event Library or Project Library. It seems the rule is to highlght what you want to keep and then cut .. but there is no crop option on my edit dropdowns. You would think that hitting the command and delete would work, but it does not. I might be able to solve my problem if I could move sections of a strip around which seemed easy to do in the old version but I cannot do so in 08. Please advise o wise gurus of the west!
