Question

Need help choosing between a Monitor or a Tv...

Mar 22, 2017 3:14PM PDT

Hi everyone! I am in the process of buying a new display, and have narrowed down what I would like to two things:
The first being the Acer Predator Z35 - 35", curved 2560x1080, 200hz, tiny response time. This is currently £611
The second being the Samsung UE40KU6100 Smart Curved 4K Ultra HD HDR, which is 40", 4k, curved, but I don't know what the response time is... it is currently £464 on amazon.

What would you go for - Money definitely is a factor - the only reason I am considering the acer is because it's on sale from 800. Thank you in advance!

Clarification Request
Since the TV only supports 60Hz input rates.

Is the goal higher input refresh rates?

If so, the Acer wins.

Hi there,

I should definitely have been more specific in my question - I'm not 'too' worried about refresh rates as such, for me they are a big bonus. The main query I had though was choosing between these two - I do want a big display ( min. 34" ), and preferably a monitor; however, I saw the TV and thought that it would maybe be a good idea - it seemingly did tick all my boxes - Really big, curved ( I know some say it's a gimmick but personally I do really like it ) and very good screen ( UHD 4k and HDR ); and also, I would be able to create custom resolutions ( like 4k ultrawide which is 3440x1440p ), effectively making it a 4k ultrawide 40" display. this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOKRHhhZNY8 ) also made me think more about the TV.

Still though, which would you go for if you had to pick from one of these? I play games such as overwatch, Csgo, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Battlefield 1 and WoW.

I also really do like the aspect ratio and concept of 'ultrawide' ( hence why I chose the acer )

Its too big for gaming

I have a 32 in. model flatscreen and even that's too big for games as I have to try to watch everything that's happening in that virtual world.
I find that I have to shrink {?} the game to a smaller size to probably half to see all of what's happening in the game.
The bigger the better for movies and such...

an interesting aside
Mar 25, 2017 8:54AM PDT

I was in walmart yesterday returning the wrong chain for my chainsaw and saw a 60" Vizio on a roller cart there, so offhandedly I remarked on "why would anyone want such a huge TV?!" I thought someone had returned it. LOL, turned out they were there to request someone help them load it into their vehicle correctly so it wouldn't get damaged. The guy was polite but a bit taken back by my comment and asked me if I ever went to see movies in a theatre. I told him I hadn't been in years since their seats were too small for me with the arms on them. He agreed that's probably true for other large men, but then asked me why I wouldn't want such a large TV. LOL, I told him I was basically a lazy TV viewer and liked to sit down and just stare ahead to watch TV and not need to move my eyes and head around to view all the action. His wife thought that was funny. Of course some years back I'd insisted a 20" TV was big enough for anyone when my wife demanded a 40" for our home. We got it, I moved my chair further back. Wink
