Need Help Choosing AV Receiver

Jul 13, 2009 10:41AM PDT

I am looking to build a nice entertainment center and am in the market of buying a AV receiver. I am a novice when it comes to this type of technology but know what most of the ports and functions are. I have been looking all over and to me all of these receivers seem to have the same ports and functionality but I want to get something that will be good for the future because I plan on adding all sorts of components to this. I was looking at the Sony STR-DA4400ES and STR-DA5400ES, it has a lot of what I am looking for and I like the GUI. I also like the Sony STR-DA6400ES because of the networking capabilities but its is 1000 more then the STR-DA5400ES.

I was hoping some of you out there could give me your opinions on these by Sony and on the receivers you use or feel are similar to these and maybe help steer me in the right direction. Any suggestions are welcome.

Sony

Do you really want a Sony receiver? I only ask because most people think Sony receivers are not as good as their competitors in the same price range (Onkyo, Pioneer, Denon).

I like the Sony ES line

I am not sure if the models you are looking are are worth a grand more for the feature, only you can decide that but just an another opinion, I find the Sony ES series to deliver a lot of bang for the buck. Take care on the reviews and ensure things people point out as "better" are things that matter or that you care about...
