Need Help choosing a Laptop

Feb 3, 2009 4:34PM PST

Hi: I am looking for a Laptop it will not be my primary computer. I have a desktop now that I use for that.
I have narrowed my choices down to.

1)Acer AS5735-6694 4GBDDR2, Vista Home Premium,Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo Processor T6400 15.4 $549.00

2.Toshiba Satellite L305 55924 2GB Ram Intel Pentium T3400 processor
2 GB RAM (4 GB max)Intel GMA X4500M graphics (up to 830 MB total available memory Vista Home Premium $569.00

3. Dell Vostro 1510, Intel Core 2 Duo T5670, 1.8GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2M L2 Cache,Vista Home Premium 2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM 256MB NVIDIA#174; GeForce#153; 8400M GS Graphics Customized around high $600 range.

The differences between them are The Acer is 64Bit and non dedicated graphics.

The Toshiba is also non dedicated graphics.

The Dell is dedicated graphics and is a Business Model even though for Home use. Also the Dell has a CD Burner but not a Dvd Burner.
Anyone have any experience with any of these models or any other ones that you can suggest.
Thanks alot.

Thanks Bob for that info. I guess the Dell salesperson forgot to mention that
when he suggested that graphics card -) Guess Dell is not what they used to be.
A couple of questions if you do not mind.
1 I looked over the System info for the Acer again and being that the graphics card is not dedicated,Will it use more memory from the system?
2 Windows vista home premium 64 Bit are there many compatability issues still
around, Example Anti Virus , Firewall.etc.
Thanks again for your heads up re:8400m

You didn't tell enough.

Why is the graphics an issue? These are laptops not gaming machines so unless you post "I want to run the latest 3D games" I'll lean to a laptop with better battery time and what most will use a laptop for.

About Vista 64 compatibility. That's discussed already all over. In short for the firewall, AV you get Vista 64 versions. At least there are free ones out.

"still" = ALWAYS!!! People are still wondering if they will ever issue an OS that will run DOS to today's Windows applications without worry.

Hi Bob: In response to your post I will be using this Laptop for surfing the web,e mail, downloading music occasionally, and using it to put some of my Digital Camera pictures on.Just basic computing I can say.
I just had read some blogs and message boards that users were suggesting dedicated graphics because after awhile they claimed the computer would slow down. But as I said I am not a gamer the only games I would have on it would be the basic MS ones and Snood, Zuma and DX Ball. That's about all.
Thanks

Zuma runs fine on my netbook.

I have the Acer Aspire One and your list could pummel that. I didn't try Zuma.

I'd opt for battery time over a hot 3D chipset.

For the money the first one has the others beat by virtue of processor and memory, hands down.
