need help buying a scanner

I am looking for a scanner that has high res and is capable of good 35mm neg and slide scanning, photos, documents. I am interested in Microtek ScanMaker S400 and Epson perfection 4180. I am an artist so image quality is an issue. Can anyone let me know their opinions about these scanners or any others that are in similar price range $149. to $299. dollars
