need help burning films using vista premium

i have downloaded some films but when i try to burn them onto a disk it never burns, says something about codec encoding. Tried using Dvix but isn't compatable with vista, have also downloaded vista codecs but i dont understand it or how to use it.As you can see i am new to computing and not very savvy about it.Any help or links would be really appreciated.Gaz M
