Need HELP building home theatre....

Dec 16, 2004 1:17AM PST

I need some advise on products...So far I have purchased the Sony 60XBR lcd and the Direct TV HDTV/TIVO box, I have prewired for a 5.1 system w/ the best speaker wire possible and thats where it ends! My room is only 14 x 14 (12x14 after custom In-wall entertainment unit). I was thinking of going w/ the Yamaha 5790 Receiver and the Klipsch Cinema 8 series speaker set-up. Would this be a good match-up my Receiver and speaker budget is $1500...Thanks

First of all, let me say: nice choice in TV. *claps* That's a killer TV. You'll save money by not going to the movies because you now have a movie theater in your home.

Secondly, Yamaha is a good name in receivers. I would say you can't go wrong. I've always purchased Denon, personally, and I would highly recommend them as well. But I have a friend who swears by Yamaha and it sounds just as nice. I would also look at the Yamaha RX-V1400, the next line up, and it's the same price. If looking at Denon, try the Denon AVR-3805 (a little more $ than the Yamaha) or AVR-2805 (a little less $).

Thirdly, Klipsch speakers are good, but with a big receiver like the Yamaha you can have more powerful speakers. If you're thinking of going with a set of speakers like that (rather than buying individually) maybe try the Sony dream system (comes with a DVD player). I think the model is DAV-FR8/9. Getting this and the receiver is still under $1500.

Happy shopping, hope this helps.

audition first

Although I like both companies, I think the Yamaha/Klipsch combo might err too much on the bright side of neutral. It would likely sound exciting with movies and too exciting with music.

I agree with the duke about Denon - the 2805 should be plenty powerful enough to drive the sensitive Klipschs to loud levels, and would be less likely to hurt your ears in the process.

Cheers
