no audio output device installed
hi i recently installed a fresh copy of windows vista home premium and everything works fine except for the sound there is a cross over the sound icon and when i put my mouse over it says "no audio output device installed" i have a advent t11 with a realtek high definition audio device and have been on the realtek site and have downloaded the new drivers for vista several times and installed but still no luck!! i have tried many things as it seems alot of people have the same problem ive unistalled and rebooted and it automatically installs the drivers but still dont work. when i go into the device manager and click on the high defintion audio it says

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available

any help would be great as its driving me nuts thanks

Did it work in the past?

If so, can't you install the original driver?
And did you install all original motherboard drivers?

Re: drivers

I'm afraid you'll need the Vista drivers for your motherboard (including the sound drivers, assuming it's onboard sound).

Don't have them? Download from the makers site, or buy a new motherboard, or go back to XP or work in silence in the future. Your choice.

Sound problem
Nov 24, 2009 5:19PM PST

To resolve this issue
Open Device manager (Start->Run->devmgmt.msc)
Right click on the sound codec and select update driver
Then select Browse my computer for the driver
Then select "Let me pick from a list of device driver on my computer"
After this it should show you Sound drivers
simply double click on it and install and select finish and Reboot your system

Best of luck and i hope this will help you as these steps worked for me "

That method rarely works.

I try the drivers from the machine's maker and the ones marked for Vista. I can't look for that driver and the often needed motherboard driver since your post seems to have lost the machine's details.

I just bought a brand new Gateway with vista and have no sounds except at start and shutdown.
