NEED HELP!!!

Jan 15, 2015 8:31AM PST

Ok so about a week ago, give or take, my computer did an automatic update, of which i turned off months ago. since the update my pc has been blocking nearly every single program I try to run, this includes media player, games, virus scanning programs, and even installers. they all give the same message, Windows cannot access the Specified device, path, or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. PLEASE HELP!!!

As such I think you can start with Google and type in that message and see what folk are doing.

I'd try a new admin account next.

Then we don't have enough to work with.

The new admin account fails so given the lack of detail I'd treat it like a blown OS. Remember I'm taking your word that all prior permission discussions don't work.

Here's what I'd do

First try a System Restore to a date prior to the onset of the problem.

Next, boot to Safe Mode and do a full system scan with your antivirus and MalwareBytes.

Have you run a registry cleaner? This could be a result of that.

When you've gotten your system back like you want it, I urge you to get yourself an external hard drive and a good 3rd party backup program. You can set it up to do everything automagically at the time and frequency of your choice. 1 TB external hard drives are about $50 these days and a really good FREE backup program is the Easeus Todo Backup Free. That can save you a lot of time and frustration the next time something like this happens. Sooner or later it happens to all computers for one reason or another.

Good luck.

Maybe you can restore your computer to a prior time, then the problems will disappear automatically.
