Need good DVD authoring software

Feb 3, 2005 1:54PM PST

I am seeking help in choosing a DVD authoring software, that doesn't have to render MPEG 2 files to author a dvd. I have captured the video in MPEG 2 format and it seems a great waste of time to have to re-render it to make a dvd. Does anyone know of a software that doesn't have to re-render MPEG 2 files to make a dvd?
Thanks

Ulead

The one I use by Ulead (DVD Movie Factory) has a "do not convert MPEG compliant files" option, which allows you to skip that if unnecessary.

Have you try that and what does that do/mean?

Tried it and it does as the words mean.

Explain what you didn't understand as it was clear to me.

I got it now!

This is GREAT. I try a 30 mintes file and the thing encoded it in less than 10 minutes. Thankyou Chilly and Tim for the Q & A. This never curred to me before, to ask the question; I have always accepted long time encoding was just part of video work.

Very Good

Glad it's working for you. It's ridiculous to re-encode files that don't need to be.

can't get Ulead Movie Factory 3 to render and burn
Feb 5, 2005 3:56AM PST

I downloaded a trial copy of Ulead Movie Factory 3, and see that you can check the box to not convert mpeg compliant files, but don't understand the next box about treating audio as non dvd compliant. In any case I have tried to make a video and burn to dvd, and in 5 attempts trying all different preferences, I get an error message (16389), and when I click it another box pops up saying Unspecified error (14252:1:0). No matter what I try, it won't let me make a movie????

The supplied details are far too sparse.

Good luck,

Don't know what the error msg. mean...

but are you certain those are mpeg2 file you are working with? I tried it and I didn't encounter any problem at all.

As for audio compliance, I would leave it UNCHECK.

hardware encoded mpeg 2
Feb 5, 2005 9:05AM PST

when I captured the files with the Vstream DVD Maker USB 2.0 device ( http://www.kworld.com.tw/en/product/DVD-Maker-USB-2/DVD-Maker-USB-2.html ) I selected to capture as mpeg 2 files, but the device does the encoding not software, so this might make a difference. I have tried to open these files with the Vidomi player and it says corupt files, but they work with the Cyberlink PowerProducer 2 program that came with the capture device, as well as Windows Movie Maker and Roxio 6.0 DVD Builder, so this has me scratching my head??

There is obviously some sort of a compatability problem when using the files I captured, and the Ulead program. I am going to capture a tv program and try again, in case it is the files I captured, although I burned a dvd using PowerProducer with no problem.

My mpeg file are also use hardware encoding as well.

and I use "Sonic myDVD" to capture the mpeg file to the harddrive. But as I've said, I encounter no problem.

Do this; after you place your file on the story line, right-click on it and take look at its "properties". Does it say mpeg2? Mine does.

properties say mpeg 2 files
Feb 6, 2005 8:31AM PST

The properties say mpeg 2 files, but there is some sort of conflict. I used the Ulead program to capture, and was able to render and burn doing that, so the program works when it captures the files???

A few issues.

1. It's just a demo according to your post.
2. You are attempting what is considered the "edge" of what works. ie. using some other encoding.

If you asked me, all is as it should be.
