that allow speeding up capture so playback is slow motion are those with the "smooth slow record" feature from Sony - in your price range. The camera model technical specifications will tell you how long they can burst that high-speed capture... it isn't very long - a 3 second burst results in 12 second playback.
I have read reports and seen samples of this feature in use and the quality is not that great.
The other option is, of course, to use any high definition camcorder and use the video application to slow the speed. This will likely result in blurry video if what you are slowing is really fast action. At that point, you just need to be capturing at the highest available quality - miniDV tape - so the editor is what matters when things slow down.
If you think you can spend $2,000 for a consumer camcorder to capture video locally in that camcorder and turn around high-quality slow motion video like you see on broadcast TV football or baseball, etc... well, that's not going to happen. Those cameras and the video storage equipment and process flows are very different.
Just like the title says, I need help on choosing the right camera for action sports and things of that nature. I'm looking for a high def camera that is really great for use when editing slow motion shots. My price range is right around $2000. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
