Need digital camera for 7 year old

Apr 9, 2005 3:56AM PDT

I've read terrible reviews on Amazon for kid-specific digital cameras. But, I don't want to spend $80+ on a camera for a 7 year old. Any recommendations? I'd think important aspects would be:
* ease of use
* battery life
* storage (# of photos that can be taken/stored)
* small size
* easy UI with compatible software

Thanks!

So far I have bought three

Fujifilm MX-700 cameras for grade school grandchildren on Ebay for less than $50 each with charger, batteries, and smart media cards. They would be perfect if they used AA batteries but they don't.

They are rugged, all metal, fixed focus, 1.5 Mp cameras that were the OEM camera sold by Leica as the first Digilux, I believe. They are fairly small with a large color LCD display. But...they are a little slow.

The children all use card readers although one came with an unusual floppy disk adapter to read the smart media cards.

If you are uncomfortable buying on Ebay, just pass on these cameras. I doubt you could find them anywhere else at a reasonable price.
