If it helps any, on start-up I get an error message:
"cpcp.cpo has failed to initialize"
Or something like that. I've done some searching. Some sites say it is a virus. Others say it is not.
So, I'm not quite sure how I got this virus. I have firewalls and anti-virus/spyware/malware programs and all that jazz. Well, this virus has stopped any of them from running, and I can't install any new ones either. They all get error (ex: I tried installing SpybotS&D and during the installation it failed because it said the file SpybotSD.exe was read-only, and when I tried to install AVG I got this error "MSVC Redistributables installation failed. Installation of AVG cannot continue.)
So then I tried to run a browser-based scanner, and this virus locked my access to my browsers. First Firefox, then I tried in IE and it did the same thing. I got an error saying "I was denied access or the program was moved" or something like that. At this point I have given up and just want to wipe my hard-drive. My PC, though, runs the Destructive System Recovery without a disc. I can access it by pressing F11 during start-up or from a program in the Start Menu. Either way, when it loads it instantly closes and goes back to the boot-up screens. I'm not sure if this is caused by the virus or by something else but I've never had a problem running it before.
I am now completely lost as far as what to do and any advice at this point would be a godsend. The specs for the PC are:
Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center Edition
Service Pack 2
AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.30 GHz.
2.00 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 8800 GT
Foxconn A7GM-S Motherboard
The computer was originally an eMachines model T6536, but I've replaced all of the hardware except the Harddrive.
