Need Camera for College Bound HS Senior interested in Photo

Nov 22, 2010 11:04PM PST

My daughter has taken photography throughout high school. Next year she will be attending college and wants to major in journalism and minor in photography. She has a manual camera she uses in class and when she needs a digital camera she borrows her boyfriend's Olympus SP-590UZ. She needs a good digital camera of her own to get her started in college. I don't know anything about photography but have been looking at reviews and am leaning towards the Canon EOS Rebel T2i. I'm looking for advice as to whether this is a good choice for her now and for the next several years and if not, what would you choose?

If she is going to take college photography classes, I would suggest any DSLR camera.

The Canon EOS Rebel T2i is a good choice.

At this time, don't worry about which lens to get.
Just go with the kit lens.

She will learn more about lenses in class.
Then she can discover what kind of lens she needs/wants.
