need burning help

I have Windows XP with a52x32x52x cd drive. I just tried to burn some movie clips I have collected on a Memorex DVD+R (4.7gb,120min,4x)cd. After a great deal of work it came back and said "no disc in drive". The discs are brand new. Am I doing something wrong or are these the wrong discs? I tried Movie Maker and Nero as well as Deep Burner. Please help
Thanks
Brad

Its this simple. You have a CD recorder.

DVD-R isn't a media that you may record with this.

The good news is that single layer DVD recorders are under 99 bucks and I've spotted dual-layer DVD recorders for 99 bucks.

Please use http://www.google.com to ask questions like "What is a DVD recorder?"

Re: Its this simple. You have a CD recorder.

First off thanks for your reply. Now the thing is that I have made short movies that will play in my DVD player(about 10 mins.)Why not longer? Ok I just checked, the cd drives name is HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8525B Type DVD/CD-R.
Thank you again

Re: You can make VCD and SVCD with CD...

Thank you very much for your patience with a new user (once again). I can make short movies on a 700mb CD-R, but to make a long movie I need a DVD burner.
Thanks again

Re: You can make VCD and SVCD with CD...

I am trying to make a music/video cd. I have successfully burnt a track onto a CD which plays fine in the pc but my home dvd player won't recognise it although it says it plays VCD's. Any advice on where I am going wrong? I am wasting a lot of CD's trying different things. I don't have a dvd burner. Would it be worth getting one although from what you have said it still wouldn't seem to work?
Any advice welcome, thanks, Mo

Your post is in a post that was completed. Plus you didn't tell what you did. Maybe a new and complete post?
