Question

Need BT ergo keyboard recommendation

Dec 26, 2013 9:35AM PST

Hi everybody.

My current BT keyboard just kicked the bucket, and I'm in the market for a new one. I'm not very familiar with what is currently out there, so I'm putting the feelers out there in hopes that somebody else has run into something appropriate. I sometimes get tendonitis that flares up, so ergonomics is important.

The features I'm looking for are:
- wireless Bluetooth connectivity
- Numeric keypad
- ergonomic shape
- I've seen models that recharge with solar panels. Neat, but not a requirement.

While I'm at it, I'll ask about mice. (they may come as a pair anyway)
- again, Bluetooth
- ergonomic shape (there's several designs out there)

- I really like the 360 degree scrolling of my Mighty Mouse (except when it jams up). It's very handy for panning around large images, web pages that don't fit in the window etc.

Any insights are appreciated. Thank you!

Answer
Must it be BT?

I don't use BT due to issues such as I can't get to the PC's BIOS on boot and more. Why not one of Logitech's or Microsoft keyboard with the usual nano-receiver?

No it's not a must, but I would much prefer BT because ...

A receiver would take up precious USB ports (I've only got two). Since BT is already built-in, it's a more elegant solution. My macbook doesn't have BIOS.

Thanks for that. Let's see what others find.

I don't shop for such online. I head to the stores and try out keyboards, then I know what each feels like and may order online or return to the store.

This is a highly personal item so my only thought is to get another of the one you like.

The selection in retail stores around here is very poor.

A lot of products in the North American market never even make it into Canada. I think I'll have a hard enough time just finding something I want anywhere, let alone in stores, so I think I'll track something down on the web first, and then get it wherever I can. I like some of the features on my current equipment, but neither keyboard or mouse are ergonomic.

Now about the mouse.

REMEMBER that these are highly personal. Why replace the mouse if it works? They don't have to come with the keyboard as this is over BlueTooth. I lived in Vancover and the Staples there had the same selection as the one in Seattle. But for mice I could use Amazon.ca since we are looking for shape. Stick with the usual names is my advice.

I didn't find what the old keyboard was so I can't search for a source. And as I lived in Canada I would order from it's neighbor for items I wanted. It was never a problem.

I appreciate the feedback, but ...

This keyboard and mouse cause me pain after extended use. Yes they work, but it's reasonable to wish for something better than satisfactory.

I'll continue my search and, in the meantime, I welcome product suggestions that people might have.
