Need Advice: unlocked T630 & T-Mobile

Feb 21, 2004 11:09AM PST

Hi all - Need some help! Thanks is advance for your time.

I am currently a Sprint PCS user and because of several issues am about to make the jump to T-Mobile. I have been with Sprint (CDMA) for 6 years, so have no expierence with GSM.

That being said, that whole concept of an "unlocked" phone is new to me. I had planned on getting a T610, but before I did I starting reading about the T630 and feel that it is an all around better phone. But, I need to go ahead and make the move and no one at T-Mobile or Sony Ericsson can give me an idea when the T630 will be available in their stores.

So, I'm leaning toward purchasing an unlocked T630 and T-Mobile service plan from Just-Talk.com. They assure me that all T-Mobile features such as voicemail, icons, and internet access via T-Zones will work flawlessly and exactly like a locked phone purchased from a store. Is this true? Are there any pit falls that I need to be aware of?

Thanks again for your help!

-Casey

I have an unlocked cellphone (Nokia 6310i) and use T-Mobile as a service provider.
I signed up for their basic plan. They sent me a sim card to insert into my phone and I was up and running fairly quickly. I access the internet via WAP. So far, I have had no problems whatsoever in a little over 12 months. I like T-Mobile.
I haven't signed up for T-zones yet. I guess it should work because my cellphone has the capability, but my particular model cellphone is not listed on the T-Mobile website as 'supported' by this service so....

an unlocked phone means that it came straight from the manufacturer it could ba an after market unlock which means it will say a different carrier on the phone but it is still capable to be used on any gsm service t-mobile/cingular/at&t etc. etc.
